Occupational Therapy

"Occupation" refers to any activity that occupies our day. Children engage in lots of occupations, including but not limited to play, listening quietly, social interaction, school activities such as reading, math, spelling, and writing. Children participate in recreational interactions such as playing on the playground, balancing on a beam, swinging, and organized sports/activities. Occupational therapy helps children who have trouble sitting still or writing clearly, are sensory seekers or sensory avoidant, and a host of other struggles.

The Institute for Healing Occupational Therapy

We provide the following services to help your child be their best:

Occupational therapy evaluations

We pride ourselves in our comprehensive evaluations. Unlike many clinics, we have access to a multidisciplinary team of professionals to help identify exactly how to best help your child. Our occupational therapy evaluation includes a full developmental history intake, school observation (if needed), standardized assessment measures to evaluate gross, fine, visual, and sensory motor abilities, parent feedback session and school feedback/ARD. Our team utilizes a holistic, whole child approach assessing for other factors impacting the child such as primitive reflex integration, school and home environment, diet, and stimulation/activity level.

Individual occupational therapy

We use our precise evaluation data to make an individualized treatment plan specific for your child and their unique needs. The goal of therapy is to take any areas of deficit or weakness and make them stronger. We do this in a very fun, connecting way in our non-toxic occupational therapy and sensory gym. Our practice believes our physical body and our emotions are deeply connected. As such, there is a specialized focus on that connection and learning skills for emotional regulation.
